Supermarkets and gas stations in Naples are facing shortages due to week-long protests by truck drivers against high gasoline costs. Protesters blocked loading and unloading at supermarket warehouses near Naples on Monday, disrupting deliveries of fresh food, according to Sky TG24. Shortages of fresh pasta, packaged cheeses, and meats have been reported in Sicily, with some stockpiling by shoppers. Partially empty shelves are also seen in Calabria and Puglia. Transport Minister Matteo Salvini met with trucking associations on Tuesday, promising to release delayed aid and tax credits to offset diesel prices. Payments are expected to begin Wednesday.
