The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to throw out $122,000 in legal costs that lawyers for former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake were ordered to pay for making false and misleading statements in a 2022 lawsuit. Lake unsuccessfully sought to require all ballots in the 2022 midterm elections to be hand-counted. The nation’s highest court on Tuesday denied a request from an attorney who represented Lake to review a lower-court decision over the legal costs. The suit was dismissed by a judge who found Lake lacked standing to sue and that the lawsuit was filed too close to the election. The requirement to pay fees applies to the lawyers who pressed the lawsuit, not Lake and Finchem.
