A search operation for seven villagers trapped inside a flooded cave in central Laos has entered its seventh day as rescuers encounter difficult terrain and weather in their bid to reach the group. The seven entered the cave in Xaisomboun province on May 19, but flash floods blocked their exit. Rescuers from Laos and Thailand said Tuesday they will explore air shafts above the cave to help locate the trapped villagers and pump water out to ease the search. The cave is in a remote area, making access difficult. The villagers reportedly went in to look for gold deposits, despite safety warnings.
