Aung San Suu Kyi's son said that they spoke about health concerns when he spoke with the detained former leader of Myanmar by phone for the first time in five years. The 81-year-old Suu Kyi is a prominent political prisoner in Myanmar. The 49-year-old Kim Aris said Friday that he spoke with his mother on Thursday for 20 minutes from Myanmar’s embassy in London. Suu Kyi has been detained since February 2021 after Myanmar's army ousted her government. Critics say that her detention is politically motivated. Aris has been waging a campaign for his mother's freedom. He said Friday that Suu Kyi had asked about his own well-being and he expressed concern about her health.
