Tayari Jones' novel “Kin” has won the Kirkus Prize for fiction. The book traces the life of two Black friends from small-town Louisiana. Paula Colloff's “Catch the Devil” won for nonfiction, and Elizabeth Acevedo's “Anger Is Only a Shadow” won for young readers' literature. Each author receives a $50,000 cash prize. Colson Whitehead, Douglas Stuart and Patrick Radden Keefe were among the finalists. The Kirkus awards, presented by Kirkus Reviews, were established in 2014. Previous winners include Whitehead, Joy Williams and Ta-Nehisi Coates.
