New York City is moving toward a ban on the more-than-150-year-old horse-drawn carriage industry, with local lawmakers poised to approve a proposal to wind down the iconic, old-timey attraction following the death of a teenage tourist in Central Park. The City Council is expected to approve a bill next week that would shutter the practice by 2028. A spokesperson for Julie Menin, the council speaker, on Wednesday confirmed the incoming vote and said the proposal had enough support to pass. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on X that the industry is coming to an end in the city.
