Oregon's governor says a community member likely saved lives by chasing down a teenager who shot and killed three children and a teacher at an elementary school in the city of Bend. Gov. Tina Kotek praised the person who shot the attacker inside Silver Rail Elementary School on Thursday and helped end the rampage. Police say the three children killed were ages 5, 8 and 11. They didn't give the name or age of the teacher who was killed. Another child and a teacher were wounded and taken to a hospital in critical condition. The city's police chief says the 16-year-old attacker, who was from Bend, was found dead inside the school minutes after the first calls for help.

At least two people were hospitalized Thursday following a shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, and the shooter is dead, authorities say. Communications Manager for the Bend Police Department is Sheila Miller says children were among the victims. Miller said authorities received a call about a shot fired into a car outside the school at 12:59 p.m. and arrived on scene within minutes. The suspect was shot shortly after, though Miller said she didn’t know if it was by police or a bystander. The conditions of those injured were not immediately known. Silver Rail Elementary was under lockdown, the Bend-La Pine school district wrote on Facebook.
