Philanthropist Nancy Kissinger, the wife of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, has died. She was 92. The daughter of a New York City lawyer, Nancy Maginnes met Henry Kissinger while working for New York Gov. Nelson Rockefeller. The couple wed in 1974. Nancy Kissinger was a strong presence on the New York philanthropy scene and was often seen at high fashion openings. She made headlines in 1982 when she tried to throttle a woman who harassed her and her husband with insulting questions at Newark Airport. She was acquitted of assault.

The 2021 Supreme Court decision allowing college athletes to earn from endorsements led to hopes that charities would benefit. Some nonprofits did see gains, like the Youth Leadership Foundation, which partnered with University of Maryland athletes. However, the financial benefits primarily went to athletes, with payments reaching nearly $2 billion annually. The IRS later ruled that NIL collectives didn't qualify for tax exemption, leading to closures. Experts say the connection between athletes and nonprofits isn't automatic. Initiatives like NIL4Good aim to encourage student athletes to give back, but challenges remain in educating them about philanthropy.
