Longtime Associated Press journalist David Briscoe has died at 82. He chronicled the collapse of Ferdinand Marcos’ rule and the rise of democracy in the Philippines, has died at 82. Briscoe died Sunday in Kapolei, Hawaii, his family said. He had been diagnosed in April with amyloidosis, a disorder that can lead to organ damage. As AP’s Manila bureau chief from 1980 to 1986, Briscoe covered the assassination of opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr., the political turmoil that followed and the People Power revolution that drove Marcos into exile and elevated Corazon Aquino to the presidency.
