European officials have welcomed progress in talks between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Geneva on U.S. peace proposals seen as heavily favoring Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Finnish President Alexander Stubb said Monday the negotiations were a step forward but noted major issues remain. The talks focused on a U.S. peace proposal that favors Moscow’s demands, including Ukraine ceding territory and reducing its army. The plan also suggests Ukraine will never join NATO. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope after the meeting. Meanwhile, Russian forces continued deadly strikes on Ukraine, hitting Kharkiv and areas near Romania’s border. The Kremlin has not yet commented on the talks.
