Family members of victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks crowded a federal appeals courtroom in New York City where three judges heard arguments over whether legal claims against Saudi Arabia can proceed. The judges in Manhattan revealed through their questions on Wednesday that there are still many legal issues up in the air despite litigation that has proceeded for almost a quarter of a century. They did not say when they will rule on whether claims that Saudi Arabia provided aid to at least two of 19 individuals who hijacked planes can proceed to trial. Lawyers for Saudi Arabia say the kingdom should be dropped from the lawsuit because it has sovereign immunity.
