Bullets recovered from two bystanders killed during a shootout at a Seattle festival last weekend do not appear to have come from the gun that a 15-year-old arrested at the scene was firing, police said in court documents filed Wednesday. The King County prosecutor’s office filed charges of first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement as well as unlawful possession of a handgun by someone under 18. In a statement supporting the charges, police said the teen was seen firing an untraceable ghost gun into a crowd, but preliminary testing of bullets recovered from two bystanders killed showed they did not match that weapon. Shell casings found at the scene of Sunday’s shooting indicate four weapons were fired during the shootout.

A Georgia teenager who charged at the U.S. Capitol while armed with a loaded shotgun and wearing body armor and camouflage clothing has pleaded guilty to illegally carrying a firearm. Eighteen-year-old Carter Camacho pleaded guilty on Monday and is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 8 by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington, D.C. He has remained jailed since his arrest in February. According to prosecutors, Camacho told police officers who apprehended him outside the Capitol that he intended to confront members of Congress and scare them. But he didn’t make it into the building, and nobody was injured.

A psychologist has testified that a teenager who killed two students and two teachers in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia had a chaotic, lonely upbringing. Sixteen-year-old Colt Gray pleaded guilty Friday to 55 counts, including murder, for the September 2024 shooting. The psychologist said Monday that Gray immersed himself in an online community fascinated by mass shootings. He was particularly interested in the 2018 massacre at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Murder carries a minimum penalty of life in prison, but the judge will decide if Gray will have the possibility of parole.

Fueled by warm weather and driven by social media, takeovers have popped up in big cities like Houston, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Detroit, and smaller communities like Clearwater, Florida. The gatherings often lead to fights, theft and vandalism. In May, a 14-year-old was shot and wounded during a fight with other teens during a takeover in downtown Detroit. Vehicles in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood were damaged during a takeover there.
