President Donald Trump is to meet with the new Syrian leader, a onetime insurgent, before wrapping up his visit to Saudi Arabia. He is also to attend a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council — the grouping of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — before leaving the kingdom on Wednesday and heading to Qatar, the second stop on his four-day Mideast tour this week, where he will be honored with a state dinner. During his stop in Riyadh, where he received a stunning welcome on Tuesday, Trump made a major announcement on lifting sanctions on Syria, focused on dealmaking and shared concerns about Iran’s nuclear program and the war in Gaza.
