A Wyoming grand jury has indicted a man on an animal cruelty charge after he allegedly hit a wolf with a snowmobile, taped its mouth shut and brought it into a bar before killing it. The incident happened in February 2024. Cody Roberts previously paid a $250 fine for illegal possession of wildlife but avoided more serious charges. Investigators struggled to find cooperative witnesses and Wyoming gives wide leeway for killing wolves outside national parks. The grand jury nonetheless found enough evidence to support the felony animal cruelty charge. Roberts faces up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
