Guitar in hand, WBOC’s Charlie Paparella reminisces of a lifetime spent performing for people. This year, he will be performing at the Wicomico County Fair.
“I play music, I got a little band together and some folks playing from around the area including Ken Nichols Drum Camp so it will be different than what we normally do,” Paparella said.
This year he’s featured as one of the fair events on Sunday. He will be “rocking the stage to provide live entertainment” for the crowd.
“This is our first time playing and I’m so excited to be at the county fair playing some wholesome music for some great people,” Paparella added.
Other events at the county fair this year will include livestock exhibits, the 5-foot fry pan, educational poultry exhibits, antique tractor pulls, Battle of the Bronze – Firemen Competitions, cowboy mounted shooting demos, live entertainment, food, free kids activities and a car show, just to name a few.
The fair is hosted by the Wicomico Farm & Home Show and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce. Sophia Smecker, director of media and public relations for the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, said there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
“There’s a lot of different things for people to look forward to,” she said. “I would say people will probably enjoy the animals the most.”
Not only will the animals be a huge hit for the crowds, Zach Evans, Wicomico Farm & Home Show chairperson, said people can look forward to the 5-foot fry pan.
“The 5-foot frying pan is a huge attraction,” Evans said. “Everyone loves fried chicken and just to see them cooking on that thing and the amount of food they can prepare is incredible.
“The tractor pull, and mounted horseback shooting demonstration will help to put a fun twist on agriculture, and of course the livestock show and competitive fruits and vegetable entries also do a great job of highlighting the industry,” Evans added.
According to the chamber of commerce, it was in early 2015 when the Wicomico Farm & Home Show and SACC decided to “join forces to create the Wicomico County Fair.”
The fair kicks off Friday with a carnival and inflatables, followed by the infamous 5-foot fry pan. What’s even better? Admission and parking are free! Check out this list of events below.
