Alice Bavis has been a part of the WBOC family for almost 13 years. Alice joined the WBOC team in January 2003 as a morning show producer, and she has been serving as a broadcast journalist during the week in the evenings.

Alice attended Syracuse University from 1998-2002, graduating from the Newhouse School of Public Communication with a double major in broadcast journalism and speech communication.
She began her career at WBOC as a morning show reporter. She recalls the highlights being fun, silly things like covering bike week ,where Alice was placed in the iconic daredevil “globe of death” while a motorcycles raced around her. “I can’t believe I did that because looking back now, I guess maybe being the mother of two little girls, I don’t think I would have enough courage to do that,” Alice says.
She reported weather around Delmarva as well. “I kind of felt like a storm chaser,” Alice said. “You would go out and expect a big snow storm and then it wouldn’t actually snow, so I’d be trying to come up with something to say about the little pellets of ice that were forming on the sidewalk, trying to fill a minute and a half talking about that,” says Alice.
Alice later became an evening anchor. She reflects that many of the stories that stick out for her are unfortunately bad ones such as the Dr. Earl Bradley case, death of Sarah Foxwell, and being live in Georgetown when Officer Chad Spicer was murdered.
After a decade on the air, Alice decided it is time to dedicate more time to her family. She has a husband and two little girls – one is two years old and the other is 8 months. “I can tell they need me, he needs me, and I’m an hour away from home and I can’t be there at night for bedtime, bathtime, and dinnertime,” Alice says, “As they get older, they’ll know that I’m not there and I’ll miss out on some things and you know, they’re only little once.”

She is going to work in the healthcare industry with a new hospital that is going to be built in Milford, Del. Alice is going to help grow the hospital’s brand in the area. “I have always loved helping people, you know. That’s one of the things that I loved the most about this job,” Alice says.
“We talk about the negative stories and the things that stand out in mind, but the things that I look back on fondly are times when I’m able to help someone. Whether it’s just telling them that there is an evacuation because of the hurricane or the latest health story, or recalls – things that can make someone’s life better. I hope that I’m able to transition into doing something similar to that in my new job,” says Alice.
“I have been honored to be able to serve people here on Delmarva and to have people watch me on television for 12 years and to watch me grow and to be kind to me when I’ve been pregnant, when I’ve come back to work and had to lose the baby weight. People have been really, really kind on Delmarva, and it’s been a joy to be able to spend this time here,” Alice says.
