Teen Summit

The Delaware Prevention Coalition is a community coalition for at-risk youth in Wilmington, New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties.

For the past 9 years, they have held annual youth summits. The Hollywood Invades Delaware Summit is where celebrities come to Delaware to talk to the youth, ages 13-18, about their lives and what obstacles they have faced as youth. The event is planned by teens, for teens.

Teen Summit Administrator, Sandy Clark, and Teen Summit Coordinator, RogJenea Fisher join us to tell us about their upcoming event.

“If we don’t get into prevention, we’ll have to go into early intervention, and then we’ll have to go to treatment,” Sandy Clark says.

They’ve had Hill Harper, Angela and Vanessa Simmons, Brandi, Nia Long, Tristan Wilds and Keshia Chanté as some of their visiting celebrities.

“We want to strengthen and build the capacity for our community partners so that they can create safe and healthy drug free communities,” Sandy says.

The teen summit will take place at Delaware State University on Saturday, August 6 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. The event is free for teens 13-18 and their parents.
