Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy has served the community for 40 years.
When Carol Evans and her husband decided to go into business several decades ago, they weren’t quite sure what they were getting into.
“We opened Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy hoping we could provide an education for graduates to go out into the community and do a good job,” Carol says.
Carol, from Seaford, and her husband, from Crisfield, bought the business from a previous owner. Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy was originally located in Downtown Salisbury and later moved to Milford Street in 1986. Over the past 40 years, the couple believes the business has achieved its goals.
“We’ve graduated a lot of people and they’ve been successful in the community,” Carol says. “Thousands have graduated…it’s amazing.”
Carol says the most rewarding part of the job is when students graduate, pass their boards and obtain a career in the community. Students in the academy span the eastern shore of Maryland and Virginia, as well as Delaware. Many of those students go on to work in their respective states.
The business owner says in 40 years of business on Delmarva, she’s learned people are hungry for education and they want to be successful. Owning a business has allowed her to help those individuals on their journey.

After a rewarding 40 years, Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy feels it’s time to return the favor.
On Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 5 – 9 p.m., the business is inviting all previous graduates to Dove Pointe in Salisbury for a celebration — an ‘open house,’ as Carol calls it. The reason for the event is to celebrate.
“It’s about re-connection with our graduates and instructors, an event to bring everyone back together and congratulate them on their accomplishments,” Carol says. “We really wanted our graduates to shine — because if it hadn’t been for them we wouldn’t still be in business.”
During the event, guest artist, Oliver Bill Shortall, will be giving demonstrations. Oliver, originally from Easton, graduated from the academy and now lives in Los Angeles. Since graduating, Oliver travels the country, inspiring and educating new and experienced hairdressers, in classroom settings, and on stage.
In addition to mingling and demonstrations, light fare will be served at the event.
