It’s common to find puddles in your yard after a hard rain, but if those puddles remain after a couple of days, you might have a drainage problem. Sean stopped by Atlantic Irrigation to find out a few ways you can address your drainage issues.

Dale Carey, with Atlantic Irrigation, says that all the water lying around can cause problems.

“If it’s not addressed the standing water can compact the soil and the area that has the water issue becomes bigger and bigger and bigger and keeps growing,” Dale says.

Water that runs off your roof and into your gutters can also cause a headache. Homeowners have downspouts for the water to travel to the ground, but sometimes the water can actually creep back into the foundation. That’s where a big issue can occur because this could cause mold and fungus, and invite insects, into your house.

To fix this, Dale says they can find the issue with a contractor and then re-direct the downspouts to have them exit somewhere else on the property. Dals adds that if there is standing water in your yard for more than 48 hours, you could have an issue with mosquito breeding.
