Wednesday on DelmarvaLife, we got a hands-on lesson on how to administer the Heimlich Maneuver. Registered Respiratory Therapist Nick Morris told us the international symbol that indicates someone may be choking is when the person puts their hands to their throat. Nick says it’s also important to speak to the person who is choking, and notice if they are coughing or not.
- If the person has a forceful cough and is able to speak, do NOT perform the Heimlich Maneuver.
- If the person is unable to cough or speak, begin the Heimlich Maneuver.
