Midway Fitness is bringing wellness to the next level.
The Cape Center for Movement Disabilities at Midway Fitness and Racquetball is offering a dynamic program that helps people who are dealing with movement challenges associated with Parkinson’s or any chronic illness.
There are more than 10 million people in the United States living with Parkinson’s Disease, but with this program, many people are finding hope to still lead healthy lives.
The classes essentially lead exercises targeted to counteract inactivity and motor deterioration. Each session is designed to increase power, strength, and flexibility.
Jacques Wiecich, personal trainer at Midway Fitness, says the classes are similar to physical therapy. It does get prescribed and recommended by medical doctors.
They offer two classes. One is a PWR class, which Jacques tells us is more of a big movement based class, and the other is a rock steady boxing class, which is more of a vigorous physical activity class.
Jacques has 26 years of experience as a personal trainer and saw a need here for movement based exercise classes. One of his teammates that teaches with him is an ex-football player and helps with these classes as well.
“It’s great having loads of different people with different backgrounds teach these classes,” Jacques says.
Jacques says in this area, there is an older demographic.
“Research has shown us that the average age of people with Parkinson’s is roughly 62-years-old,” Jacques says. “You also have early on-set Parkinson’s and late on-set Parkinson’s. Our demographic here is an older generation so that is kind of why you see the need for having these classes.”
He adds that those who are registered at Midway Fitness, can bring their caregiver to help them during their movement classes. Midway Fitness caters to many different age groups and abilities. For more information on this dynamic program, head to their website here.
