One in four women in the U.S. will die from heart disease.

That’s why Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Guerrieri Heart and Vascular Institute offers a free heart disease risk assessment for women.

The screening includes cholesterol and HDL, resting EKG, body fat assessment, body mass index, waist to hip ratio, blood pressure testing, and pulse oximetery testing.

Exercise physiologist Caroline Farrell says knowing these numbers in your twenties and thirties is key to preventing heart disease later in life.

The free screening is done on Tuesdays and Thursday morning.

Patients will get a report containing all of their numbers to take home with them the day of the screening.

Caroline suggest getting the screening done every year so that you can track your numbers as you age.
