A native of Delmarva, Brian Spicer didn’t always know what he wanted to do with his life, but he did know, whatever he did, he wanted to do it right.
Spicer left a high-stress managerial position at a yacht manufacturer to start his own business.
I decided that if I’m going to be that stressed, I’m going to do it for myself, says Spicer.
That’s when Spicer says he cashed in his entire retirement to start Spicer Bros. Construction. At the time, Brian and his wife, Heather, had just started a family.
We had two small children and we had bills to pay, and I just wanted to make sure everything was going to be okay, says Heather.
Spicer started the company with his older brother, but says now it’s just him and his daughters, Brooke and Lauren. He says it wasn’t easy because the industry had had some problems with some less than reputable contractors. He wanted to change that by making sure every job was done right.
He’s determined, he’s not going to fail, that’s the way he has always been, says Heather.
Spicer Bros. Construction crews work on replacing the roof of a house as part of the 6th Annual Delmarva’s Neediest Roof Contest.
Now that Spicer Bros. Construction is a leader in the industry, Spicer wants to do more to give back to the community. In December, the company gave away two new roofs in the Spicer Bros. Delmarva’s Neediest Roof Contest. Spicer also does what he can support military and first responders.
In his spare time, Spicer likes to be outdoors hunting or fishing. He also loves old cars and trucks.
I have a passion for hot rods, says Spicer.
But, Spicer says, family is his first and truest love.
