On DelmarvaLife’s “Matters of the Heart,” we learned about congestive heart failure. According for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 5.1 million people in the U.S. have heart failure. Jeanne Ruff, Executive Director of the Guerrieri Heart and Vascular Institute at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, told us heart failure does not mean the heart has stopped working, but that the heart is not working as efficiently as it should, particularly when it comes to pumping. Jeanne says there are many different causes of heart failure, including coronary artery disease and a history of untreated hypertension.
PRMC has a Peninsula Heart Line program that can help patients take an active role in their health. For more information, call 410-543-7123 or 1-800-955-0202.
