A Smyrna, Delaware restaurant is holding a three-day fundraiser in honor of Lt. Steven Floyd, the correctional officer who lost his life during the hostage situation that occurred last week at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.

This fundraiser will be from Wednesday, Feb. 8 to Friday, Feb. 10 at the Brick Works Brewing and Eats Restaurant, where 10 percent of all sales will be donated to a foundation that focuses on education and sports for children in the Smyrna area, per the Floyd family request. Floyd was an active participant within the foundation. Donations will also be accepted.

The restaurant said that bottles of “A Special Toast” will be released for sale in honor of Floyd. The 22-ounce bottle is selling for $20, and $10 from each bottle will go toward the foundation. If you are not a beer drinker, the ability to sponsor a bottle is also available.

Lauren Bigelow, marketing coordinator for Brick Works, said the restaurant was holding a live and silent auction on Wednesday, with donations from local businesses to bid on.

“Thousands of people in the community have expressed interest in attending this event in support of this trying time for the Floyd family, Delaware correctional officers, and the Smyrna community,” the restaurant said on its Facebook page about the fundraising event.

The uprising began Wednesday, Feb. 1, when JTTVC inmates with homemade weapons overpowered staff members, seized Building C and took three guards and a counselor hostage. To learn more about the events that took place, see this article.
