Throughout the years, we’ve heard about the need to help the homeless on Delmarva. Well, leadership at HALO (Hope and Life Outreach) have recognized a new need and with help from this incredible community, they’re meeting it too. HALO will soon be equipped to offer warm showers to those who need one. Katie stopped by the shelter to learn about this project – and the incredible people who made it possible.

You remember Stallone, right? The Pittie pup, who just a few months ago, was found alone in a shed, left to die. Well, you wouldn’t recognize that pup now. Today – he’s healthy, happy, and would love nothing more than a loving home and human to call his own for the holidays. We talk with Cassie Felesky, Volunteer and Board Vice President with the Humane Society of Wicomico County, to get a pupdate on Stallone and find out all the happenings at the humane society.

If you’ve been shopping over the past couple of days, you may have noticed more people getting out and doing the same. Perhaps, it may be because they don’t know what’s going to happen with the pandemic and would like to get their holiday shopping done sooner rather than later. The pandemic has certainly changed our outlook on things and for local shop owners, it’s changed how they do business. Lisa checks out Blooming Boutique, who not only have you covered with pandemic products but also, covered in style.

This certainly is a year that many of us won’t forget. For Layton’s Chance Vineyard and Winery in Vienna, 2020 holds special meaning because it’s their tenth year in business. They’re still celebrating and good news, you’re invited – they’ve just had to change things up a bit. As Lisa finds out change isn’t always a bad thing.

How many times has your resolution been to get healthy? But then…you go out to dinner or can’t say no to pizza or you know that your “diet” will be thrown out the window over the holidays. Here’s a thought: don’t look at it as a diet, but more of a lifestyle change. As 102-5 WBOC’s Corey Phoebus finds out with the team at CustomFit 360, you’ll get help every step of the way.

Split-Pea-Soup-OR_Large400_ID-1129376

Split Pea Soup is a classic dish, full of wholesome flavors and fresh ingredients. Serve with a piece of crusty bread and you’ll be savoring every bite! Check out the recipe below:

What You’ll Need

  • 10 cups water
  • 1 pound fully cooked boneless ham, chopped
  • 2 (12-ounce) packages dry green split peas
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

What to Do

  1. In a soup pot over medium-high heat, combine all ingredients and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 55 to 60 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.

Note

  • You can use leftover ham in this, or buy it right from the deli case. Don’t forget to refrigerate any leftovers! And if the soup is too thick after it has been chilled, just stir in some water when rewarming it to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Top off your homemade soup with some homemade croutons — they’ll think you’re a kitchen wizard!
