CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Cambridge police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a 2019 murder.

On Tuesday night, April 13, police executed a search and seizure warrant at a home located at 601 Carlton Court in Cambridge. Marcus D. Griffin, 36, of that address, was served an arrest warrant charging him with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, armed robbery, robbery, reckless endangerment and handgun on person. He is being held without bond in the Dorchester County Detention Center.

Police said that on Oct. 24, 2019, officers responded to the 800 block of Allen Street for someone who had been shot. The victim, identified as Tavaar T. Chester, was seated in the driver seat of a vehicle parked on the street. Chester had suffered a single gunshot wound to his lower left back. Chester was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester where he succumbed to his injuries.

Throughout the last 18 months, detectives from the Cambridge Police Department investigated the homicide, along with the assistance of the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office. It was on Tuesday, April 13, that detectives were able to gather new information that led to the warrant for Griffin's arrest in connection with Chester's murder.
