Pemberton Drive Opens With Temporary Fix In Time For Good Beer Festival

SALISBURY, Md.- With road closures in Salisbury due to Michael's storms on Thursday night, some drivers found extended travel time trying to navigate around town.

"It was a nightmare," Seth Williams said.

Williams and his friends were looking forward to the Good Beer Festival this weekend in Pemberton Park.  But when he saw that a portion of Pemberton Drive was washed away on Friday morning, he was forced to take a different route.

"We had to go over to 50 instead of taking Pemberton Drive, but even on 50 it still took a couple cycles of lights to get through the light because there were so many cars," Williams said.

Wicomico County Director of Public Works Dallas Baker said crews were working tirelessly on Friday to make sure the lane would be open for traffic going to the festival.  Baker said a temporary fix was installed until permanent asphalt could replace the section of the road.  While there is no timeline yet for the work, due to negotiations with the county's asphalt contractor, Baker is hoping to fix multiple portions of West Salisbury that were affected by the storm.

Assistant Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism Vanessa Junkin says she's hoping turnout for the Good Beer Festival aren't affected by the road closures in town.

"We did post something on social media letting people know that the road was back open in case people were wondering about it. Depending on where they were coming from, it's possible they could've run into something, but at least Pemberton Drive is open," Junkin said.

The Good Beer Festival will run until Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and the Autumn Wine Festival will be held in Pemberton Park next weekend.
