WICOMICO COUNTY, M.d - A new cell phone policy is banning cellular devices from schools in Wicomico county.
The "Bell to Bell, No Cell" policy forbids students from using their devices in school.
Wicomico County Public Schools says must be power off, silence, and store away all personal communication devices from the first bell to the dismissal bell.
Devices include cell phones, earbuds, smart watches, recording devices, and more.
The only technology students may use is what is provided by the school, such as laptops and computers.
Superintendent of Schools Micah Stauffer says he hopes the policy will create the best learning environment for students.
"They are free from distractions that they are going into each class period able to listen to the teacher, teach, learn, collaborate with other students and not be distracted by their cell phones," he says.
Wicomico Schools say students may use their communication devices before the first bell and after the dismissal bell only.
Wicomico County Public Schools begin their school year on September 1st, which is when the policy will begin.
