Ghazala Hashmi

Ghazala Hashmi and her husband moved to the Richmond area in 1991 where she began teaching as a professor at the University of Richmond and then Reynolds Community College. She was then elected as a Virginia State Senator in 2019. In 2024, she was named Chair of the Senate Education and Health Committee. Her main focuses have been solving housing inequities, education, health care, and environmental justice.
