Born and raised in Wilmington, McBride graduated from the Cab Calloway School of the Arts and earned her degree from American University. She has worked under former Governor Jack Markell, Attorney General Beau Biden and served in the Obama-Biden White House. She is known for her advocacy in LGBTQ rights and healthcare reform. McBride made history as the first openly transgender person to speak at a major party convention at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
