A native of Sussex County, Reed graduated from Greenwood High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and retiring in 1990 as a Flight Engineer. After his military service, Reed pursued a career in law enforcement, earning certifications from various institutions including the Delaware Police Academy and the National Sheriff's Institute. He served as Sheriff of Sussex County for eight years. Reed has also been actively involved in community service, serving as a Commander of the Greenwood VFW Post and engaging in various missionary and community activities.
