DELAWARE – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is inviting residents and visitors to explore the state’s waterways this summer through a new paddling challenge.
The DNREC Division of Parks and Recreation launched Paddle Quest, a statewide kayak, canoe and paddleboat challenge celebrating the 75th anniversary of Delaware State Parks.
Participants can earn prizes by visiting at least two qualifying locations and submitting a photo showing they are wearing a properly fitted personal flotation device at a designated boat launch or rental area. Entries must be submitted by Sept. 1.
Qualifying locations include Delaware Seashore State Park, Killens Pond State Park, Lums Pond State Park in Bear and Trap Pond State Park.
DNREC also announced new self-service kayak rental options at Delaware Seashore State Park. Visitors can rent kayaks, paddles and life jackets through the Whenever Watersport app at Towers Road Bayside and Town Road along the Assawoman Recreation Area. Rentals are available daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the summer season.
A new rental business at Fenwick Island State Park also offers kayak and paddleboard rentals with personal flotation devices.
DNREC says the programs are designed to encourage outdoor recreation while promoting safe boating practices across Delaware’s waterways.
