QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, Md. -- On Friday, Maryland Governor Wes Moore responded to WBOC's questions about the passionate speech Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes presented on the Maryland House floor late last month, speaking out against a $67B budget that includes tax hikes and budget cuts.
Governor Moore and his team were in Queen Anne's County on Friday for a cabinet meeting and tour of the new Queen Anne's County YMCA and Active Aging Center. WBOC's Kirstyn Clark asked Moore about his thoughts on Sample-Hughes' remarks.
"We have now been to the Eastern Shore over 30 times since I've been the governor," Moore said, indirectly addressing the speech. "I'm really proud of the historic investments that we're making on the Eastern Shore, and we're going to keep on doing it while also making sure we're providing a tax cut to middle class Marylanders."
When asked about Sample-Hughes' specific comments on funding and budget cuts, Moore remained broad in his response.
"As we're getting close to the end of session, we just want to make sure that we're delivering a budget that the people of the state can really be proud of," said Moore. "And we're working very closely with all the members of the General Assembly to make sure that we're getting middle class families a tax cut and also to make sure that we're going to turn this historic, structural deficit into a structural surplus."
