WESTOVER, Md. - A man convicted in the killing of his cellmate at the Eastern Correctional Institution has been sentenced to life in prison.
The Somerset County State's Attorney's Office say Leslie Broadway was sentenced on June 24, following a pre-sentence investigation, after a jury previously found him guilty of the first-degree murder of Virgil Robinson Jr. following a three-day trial in March.
Investigators say Broadway and Robinson were housed together in a segregation unit cell at ECI in September of 2024. During routine rounds, a correctional officer found Robinson lying unresponsive on the floor. Another officer reported seeing a liquid on Robinson's back.
Prosecutors say Broadway was acting erratically when officers entered the area and was removed from the cell. According to court records, Broadway told investigators he had urinated on Robinson and said they "shouldn't put Bloods and Crips together in a cell."
An autopsy determined Robinson died from multiple injuries, including asphyxia, a fractured hyoid bone, and blunt force injuries to his head, neck, and torso.

Broadway is the second ECI inmate sentenced in connection to the murder of a cellmate this month. On June 18, Tyjuan Chapple was sentenced to life for the brutal murder of Shane Lanham, Jr. in 2025.
