FELTON, Del. - A 65-year-old Kent County man has died after a camel fell on him Tuesday, according to Delaware State Police.

Details are currently limited, but DSP says the incident occurred on Indian Point Road on June 30. Police arrived at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday to conduct a death investigation. Investigators say the man was tending to the camel when the animal fell on him.

Authorities said they would not release any further information.

According to the San Diego Zoo, the majority of camels are dromedaries, or Arabian camels, that have long been domesticated. Dromedaries range from 5.9 to 6.6 feet tall and weigh from 880 to 1,320 pounds when grown, according to the Zoo.

Delawareans can own camels, which fall under the title of exotic animals, as long as they have a Delaware Department of Agriculture Exotic Animal Permit.
