Milton Parking

MILTON, DE -- Milton town leaders are set to continue discussions over the new parking lot slotted to go next to the Milton Historical Society building.

The town's council is slotted to discuss additional waiver requests for the project at their meeting on Monday, April 7th, and look over an updated design draft.

Milton Parking Lot Draft

Crystal Baum, a regular Milton visitor, said empty spots can be hard to come by downtown.

"It's very difficult to find parking. We used to park in the parking lot near where the M&T bank is but now we noticed it's all posted off," Baum said.

Some business owners downtown shared similar sentiments to WBOC Thursday. Jim Tisher, who owns a booth at the Mercantile, said he thinks the lot will help.

"With the influx of new people, andthe tourism, and the businesses that are growing in the downtown area here it has been a need for quite some time," Tisher said.

Financing ideas for the town's lease agreement, which is projected to cost roughly $45,000 a year, are still up for discussion. Some previously discussed options included a town-wide parking impact fee and metered parking.

"I'm not in favor of parking meters. I don't think that's conducive to additional people visiting," Tisher said.

"I don't think it'll help business at all if they charge for parking. It's just gonna make people not come to town," local barber John Lynch told WBOC.

The design phase for the project is expected to continue after town leaders vote on two waiver requests at Monday's council meeting.
