DELMARVA - The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning on Thursday afternoon just before declaring most of Delmarva under a tornado watch.

The tornado warning was issued for Kent and Queen Anne’s in Maryland at about 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 20 after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected over Rock Hall. That warning expired at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Following the warning alert, the NWS then upgraded the majority of Delmarva from severe thunderstorm watch to tornado watch at about 3 p.m. All of Delmarva, except for Virginia’s Eastern Shore, was placed under the tornado watch until 10 p.m. Thursday night.

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
