Maryland Red Cross Has "Boots on Ground" in Surfside

BALTIMORE, Md.- Red Cross workers from Maryland have their boots on the ground in Surfside.

There are healthcare and spiritual care workers and a full family assistance center has been set up by the Maryland chapter.

They're all working tirelessly to help comfort people searching for loves ones.

Former Salisbury Red Cross responder Shawn Felder is assigned virtually to the project.

His job is to deploy transportation for the on-the-ground volunteers.

He says the workers he speaks to every day are dealing with a lot of emotions.

"A lot of times words are lost, because you don't know what to say to a family that may have lost a loved one. You don't know what to say to a family who had other family stuck in the rubble or was effected by that collapse," said Felder.

If you'd like to help you can find volunteer information on their website or you can donate at redcross.org.
