Assateague Island is known for its wild ponies, but a different wild animal is attracting interest. A roughly 30 ton Gulf of Maine Humpback Whale washed ashore last Thursday, according to Maryland's DNR. For days, crews have been trying to remove the carcass, but given the whale's size and weight, it hasn't been easy says Jake Shaner, a biologist with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries.
