Demolition began Thursday morning on the Lake Gerar Tot Lot in Rehoboth Beach. The city plans to build a safer, more accessible playground in it's place. People in Rehoboth are frustrated they can't play with their kids at the Tot Lot this summer, but the city said safety gave them no other choice.
Commissioner Richard Byrne says the Lake Gerar playground needs upgrades. He said, "This tot lot, currently, is old. The equipment is not ADA compliant, and some of it has been deemed unsafe and/or worn out." Now after over a year of debate, the mayor and commissioners approved plans to upgrade the space.
