The Maryland Food Bank’s Eastern Shore branch unveiled a new refrigerated trailer Friday, but a bigger concern looms as a federal fight over food aid could leave more families turning to charity for help.
OCEAN CITY, Md. -- Each year thousands of pounds of fish are caught during the White Marlin Open. Several hundred pounds of that fish are donated and end up in the hands of those who need it most.
Community members came together in Dorchester County to pick produce for those in need. All the greens picked from the farm on Williamsburg Church Road near Hurlock will be delivered by the Maryland Food Bank. WBOC's Kayla Tinsley.
The Maryland Food Bank says they have seen a 47% increase in new clients needing food desperately and that number is likely to increase. Jennifer Small, Senior Regional Program Director of the Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore, says "we're still continuing to see an increased need... Food insecurity was a challenge before the pandemic, it continues to be a challenge during the pandemic."
