The American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland has filed a lawsuit against the Somerset County Board of Education alleging the school board is illegally withholding public records regarding book removals, curriculum decisions, and other board practices.

A state investigation has not substantiated claims that a Somerset County Board of Education member violated residency rules, but the case is now being referred to the Maryland State Board of Education for further review.
