Community members in Dover are pushing back against a proposed pedestrian safety ordinance up for discussion at Monday night’s City Council meeting. The measure would limit pedestrians from lingering on medians or approaching moving vehicles except when crossing legally.

Dover City Council is looking to enhance street safety as it prepares to consider two new ordinances: one to strictly enforce speed limits in residential neighborhoods and another to restrict people from standing on medians except when legally crossing the street.

A cable-barrier that would further divide the northbound and southbound sides of Coastal Highway has been proposed for a section of the road in Sussex County.

Some drivers in Milford can expect to see some delays come next week.
