A West Virginia National Guard member who was shot last month in the nation’s capital is being transitioned from hospital acute care to in-patient rehabilitation. Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe was airlifted to MedStar Washington Hospital Center with a critical gunshot wound to the head on Nov. 26. Dr. Jeffrey Mai, a MedStar neurosurgeon, says Wolfe has “made extraordinary progress.” Wolfe and Spc. Sarah Beckstrom were ambushed as they patrolled a subway station three blocks from the White House on Nov. 26. Beckstrom died the next day. A 29-year-old Afghan national who was also shot during the confrontation has been charged with murder. He has pleaded not guilty.
