A Delaware House committee has advanced legislation that would increase taxes on cigarettes and other nicotine products while updating the state’s tobacco licensing system.

Eligible organizations can request up to $2,000 for community-based activities which spread awareness for smoking prevention, including retailer and consumer education, tobacco cessation referrals and other health-promoting events.

U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons (both D-Del.) are pushing the federal government to finalize a ban on menthol cigarettes.
