President Donald Trump is set to help plant a sapling to replace a historic White House tree that had to be cut down due to safety concerns. A towering, nearly 200-year-old Magnolia tree along the south entrance to the mansion was removed on Monday. The White House says a 12-year-old sapling that is a direct descendant of the Andrew Jackson-era Magnolia is scheduled to be planted in its place on Tuesday morning. Trump had announced last month that the tree was in “terrible condition” and would be removed because it had become a safety hazard.
