Leaving from Columbia, Md., and arriving at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort in Ocean City, Dick Gelfman’s 16th annual Ride Across Maryland will bring motorcyclists from across the Mid-Atlantic region together to raise money and awareness for The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

This year’s event, which will be held June 4 and 5, features a 150-mile ride, including an escort over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and continues through the back roads of the Eastern Shore of Maryland with alternate route options, poker runs and more.

Once they arrive in Ocean City, riders, friends and family will gather at the Francis Scott Key Resort for the evening’s festivities, which celebrate the ride’s fundraising efforts, and honor and remember those who have fought or are fighting cancer.

Since Gelfman started Ride Across Maryland in 2000, the event has raised more than $2.5 million for cancer-related causes. Funds raised by the Ride Across Maryland directly fund programs at the Ulman Cancer Fund.

“The Gelfmans have been long-time friends with the Ulmans,” Amy Young, program coordinator for events and marketing for the Ulman Cancer Fund told CBS Baltimore. “They realized it was a great fit and a new opportunity to serve a different population but we still work with breast cancer patients.”

“We are awarding a scholarship to a young adult who has been impacted through a personal diagnosis or a diagnosis of a loved one with breast cancer,” Young says. “It’s a $2,500 scholarship and we will actually be awarding that to the winner at this year’s event on June 4 in Ocean City.”

Anyone can participate in the Ride Across Maryland, whether it be riding a motorcycle or joining the riders in Ocean City. All riders and participants are responsible for a $30 registration fee and a fundraising minimum of $70, representative of the 70,000 young adults in the United States who will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
