Wicomico County Public Schools to Hold Open Houses

Wicomico County Public Schools will hold open houses Aug. 23-25 in preparation for the opening of the 2016-2017 school year.

According to the Wicomico County Board of Education, Students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend school on Monday, Aug. 29, with some exceptions: All grades will attend at Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and only grades 6 will attend at Mardela Middle and High.

All students in grades 1-12 will be in school Tuesday, Aug. 30.

During the first week, kindergarten and pre-kindergarten students will report as scheduled by the assigned school.

All schools and school system offices will be closed the morning of Thursday, Aug. 25 so that employees may participate in staff development activities to prepare for the start of the new school year. Schools and offices will reopen at 11:30 a.m. that day.

Beaver Run Elementary School

Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 4-5 p.m., Back-to-School Community Barbecue hosted by Wicomico Middle, East Salisbury Elementary and Beaver Run Elementary, at Doverdale Playground with hot dog, chips, lemonade or water for every attendee. Attendees will have the chance to meet the schools’ teachers and administrators, and students will be randomly selected to receive school supplies. Open House at Beaver Run Thursday, Aug. 25 from 1:30-3 p.m. (Please note new, earlier start time.)

Charles H. Chipman Elementary

Tuesday, Aug. 23 Charles H. Chipman/Glen Avenue Back-to-School Community Picnic 4-6 p.m., Lake Street Park. Open House for all Chipman students Thursday on Aug. 25, 1-2 p.m. Doors will unlock at 1 p.m. Our Executive PTA Board will be at the Open House to welcome students and families and give them the opportunity to join the PTA.

Delmar Elementary School

Wednesday, Aug. 24,Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Open House and Classroom Orientation from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 25, Open House from 1-3 p.m. for grades Prekindergarten to 4. 

East Salisbury Elementary

Tuesday, Aug. 23, 3rd grade orientation and picnic, 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 4-5 p.m., Back-to-School Community Barbecue hosted by Wicomico Middle, East Salisbury Elementary and Beaver Run Elementary, at Doverdale Playground with hot dog, chips, lemonade or water for every attendee. Attendees will have the chance to meet the schools’ teachers and administrators, and students will be randomly selected to receive school supplies. Thursday, Aug. 25, all grades orientation and teacher/classroom visits at East Salisbury Elementary, 2-3 p.m. 

Fruitland Primary

Thursday, Aug. 25 from 1-3 p.m., Open House. Fruitland Primary is excited to welcome our students and families to the Open House. Doors will unlock at 1 p.m. Students will enjoy socializing with peers, meeting their teachers, touring the school and visiting Snowy. Our PTA will be on-site as well as community partners in support of our student’s success.

Fruitland Intermediate School

Update: The Aug. 23 Community Outreach stops in Fruitland and Allen have been cancelled. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2:30-4:30 p.m., Back-to-School Barbeque to meet and greet teachers, administrators and staff members. This will be held on the playing fields and in classrooms.

Glen Avenue Elementary

Thursday, Aug. 18 Grade 2 Transition Night, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 Charles H. Chipman/Glen Avenue Back-to-School Community Picnic 4-6 p.m., Lake Street Park. Thursday, Aug. 25, Open House for all students 2:30-3:30 p.m.

North Salisbury Elementary

Thursday, Aug. 25 Open House for all students, 1-3 p.m. Buster the Bus will serve as the official greeter. NSS will offer free school supplies to all students who attend, and several community partners will be on hand to show their support of the school as well. Our Executive PTA Board will be at the Open House to welcome students and families and give them the opportunity to join the PTA. The PTA will also share information about events scheduled for the upcoming school year. North Salisbury families will receive additional details on Open House activities with the mid-August welcome letter.

Northwestern Elementary

Thursday, Aug. 25, Open House 3-4 p.m. 

Pemberton Elementary

Open House events for all students will be on Thursday, Aug. 25. Open House for Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be held from 1-2:30 p.m.  “Welcome to Prekindergarten and Kindergarten!” Open House for Grades Prekindergarten 3, Prekindergarten 4 and Kindergarten will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Pemberton’s PTA will begin its membership drive and faith-based partners will be on hand to escort parents and students to classrooms.

Pinehurst Elementary

Thursday, Aug. 25, 4-6 p.m. Open House/EXPO/Picnic. 

Prince Street Elementary

Thursday, Aug. 25, Open House at Prince Street Elementary 1:15-2:15 p.m. for Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, and 2:15-3:15 p.m. for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. The Snowy Bus will be present from 1-3:45 p.m.

Westside Primary

Thursday, Aug. 25, Open House 1-2 p.m., Prek/K Informational Session 2-2:30 p.m.

Westside Intermediate

Open House Thursday, Aug 25, grades 2 and 3 from 2-3 p.m. and grades 4 and 5 from 3-4 p.m.

Willards Elementary

Wednesday, Aug. 24 Back To School Social 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Wicomico Early Learning Center (WELC)

Open House on Aug. 25 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Back to School Night Sept. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Pittsville Elementary and Middle

Thursday, Aug. 25, the administration, faculty, staff, and PTA will welcome students and their families to a new school year during a “Back to School Bash” from 5-7 p.m.

Bennett Middle School

Back to School Night Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5-7 p.m.

Salisbury Middle

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, the administration, faculty, staff, and PTA will welcome all students and their families to a new school year during a Back to School Open House from 5-7 p.m. Parents may turn in information from the Back to School invitation packet any time up to and including the night of the open house. Once these documents have been accepted, the student is eligible to receive his/her schedule for the school year.

Wicomico Middle

Updated schedule for Wednesday, Aug. 24: 4-5 p.m. Back-to-School Community Barbecue hosted by Wicomico Middle, East Salisbury Elementary and Beaver Run Elementary, at Doverdale Playground with hot dog, chips, lemonade or water for every attendee. Attendees will have the chance to meet the schools’ teachers and administrators, and students will be randomly selected to receive school supplies. Open House at Wicomico Middle 5:15-6:30 p.m. Parents can pick up student schedules when they turn in completed forms sent in the invitation to the Open House. They may also pick up Family Portal information in the Guidance office. 

Mardela Middle and High School

Tuesday, Aug. 23, Back-to-School BBQ 5-7 p.m. Families can get their student’s schedule when they bring a completed copy of the student data form to the BBQ. 

James M. Bennett High School

Thursday, Aug. 25, PTSA Back to School Night for 9th graders only, 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Pickup of class schedules when required school documents are turned in. (JMB 10th – 12th graders can receive their schedules between 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. that same day (Aug. 25) when turning in required school documents.) 

Parkside High School

Tuesday, Aug. 23, Back to School Night 5-7 p.m.; 5-5:30 p.m., schedule distribution, 5:30-6 p.m. PTA business meeting, 6-7 p.m. class rotation.

Wicomico High School

Tuesday, Aug. 23, Back to School Night for freshmen, 4-6 p.m.

Wicomico Evening High School

Registration for the fall semester will be in September and fall semester classes will begin in September, in Building E of Wicomico High School.
