Forecast Updated on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 3:55am by WBOC Chief Meteorologist Mike Lichniak.

Today: Partly to mostly sunny with afternoon and evening showers / storms likely. Some of these thunderstorms could pack a punch with gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning. Can’t rule out an isolated tornado, but the threat is low. Highs: 87-92. Winds: SW 5-20+ mph.

Tonight: Some showers and storms possible early in the evening. Otherwise, it will be partly to mostly cloudy by morning. Lows: 67-74. Winds: W 5-15 mph.

Friday: Partly cloudy. I think we get away with a mainly dry day. Highs: 75-82. Winds: NW-NE 5-20+ mph.

Friday Night: Increasing clouds with the arrival of showers and storms into the morning hours of Saturday. Lows: 69-74. Winds: E-SE 5-20+ mph.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with on and off rain showers and a few storms possible throughout the day. Highs: 75-80. Winds: SE-SW 10-20+ mph.

Sunday: Partly cloudy with the chance of a few pop-up showers / storms. Highs: 82-87. Winds: SW 5-20+ mph.

Expect the wind to pick up throughout the day ahead of the cold front with some wind gusts to over 30+ mph early this afternoon. This will be driving in the humidity with temperatures climbing quickly into the 80s and 90s this afternoon with the heat index over 100 possible in some communities. Ahead of the front, we could see a couple spotty showers and storms in the mid-afternoon hours. We will need to pay attention to these spotty storms because if we do see a threat of an isolated tornado…it will be in one of these storms. The threat is low, but we will need to watch it.

The cold front will push through the region with some scattered showers and storms by later in the day. Some of these thunderstorms will pack a punch with some strong and gusty winds…very heavy rain…and lightning. At the moment, this looks to be a late afternoon and evening event with the window being between 4pm and 10pm Thursday.

The thing about this front (and has been the pattern for the last few weeks) is that this front will become our best friend and stall out overhead. The front will allow for an area of low pressure to develop on the front and drift through our neck of the woods and keep things unsettled with rain and storms for Friday night and looks to linger into a good chunk of Saturday. The good news is that I believe we will get away with a dry day on Friday now before the showers and storms arrive overnight.

I am trying to be optimistic for the beach businesses and to dry us out for late Saturday and Sunday. At the moment, we can’t rule out a couple showers and storms on Sunday. Sunday looks to be the better of the two weekend days as the storm chance doesn’t look as large as it will be on Saturday. A touch less humidity arrives for early next week behind the front as things look to settle down a bit for Monday and Tuesday. Another slow moving system could bring more rain and storms into the region for Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
